In the interplay of installation, sculpture, action, drama and film, the art of the German performance artist John Bock (b. 1965) looks to go beyond any limitations. His room-filling installations use diverse materials and different artistic styles to create complex scenarios.
Within the spaces made by the artist, the juxtaposition of various materials creates potential meanings that follow along the rhizome structure of the installations. The backdrop of his absurd performances are installations full of various references that suggest the permeability between the space of the audience and the artwork. The theatricality of the scenario is further enhanced by video projections that hint at another spatio-temporal level.
In cooperation with the Danube Festival, John Bock will produce an installation for the central hall of the Kunsthalle in which musical and performative interventions will take place that enter into an interactive relationship with the exhibition space and audience.
